Principality of Antioch
The Principality of Antioch was a Crusader state established in 1098 during the First Crusade. It was located in what is now modern-day Turkey and was one of the four major Crusader states, alongside the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the County of Edessa, and the County of Tripoli. The principality was founded after the capture of the city of Antioch, which became its capital.
The principality played a significant role in the Crusades, serving as a base for further military campaigns in the region. It was ruled by a series of princes, including Bohemond of Taranto, who was a prominent leader during the Crusade. The principality faced numerous challenges, including conflicts with neighboring Muslim states and internal power struggles, ultimately leading to its decline in the late 12th century.
