Prince William, Duke of Cumberland
Prince William, Duke of Cumberland (1721-1765), was a British royal and the third son of King George II. He is best known for his military role during the Jacobite Rising of 1745, where he led government forces to victory at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. This battle effectively ended the Jacobite threat to the British throne.
Despite his military successes, William's reputation suffered due to his harsh treatment of prisoners and his unpopular policies in Scotland. He was later appointed as the Governor of Hannover, a position he held until his death. His legacy remains mixed, reflecting both his achievements and controversies.
