Prince Rastislav was a significant figure in the history of the Great Moravian Empire during the 9th century. He ruled from around 846 to 870 and is known for his efforts to strengthen the political and cultural unity of the Slavic peoples in the region. Rastislav sought to establish an independent church and invited the Byzantine brothers Cyril and Methodius to spread Christianity and literacy among the Slavs.
