Price's Raid
Price's Raid was a military campaign during the American Civil War, conducted by Confederate General Sterling Price in the fall of 1864. The objective was to capture Missouri and rally support for the Confederacy. Price's forces, numbering around 12,000, advanced through the state but faced significant resistance from Union troops.
The raid began in late September and culminated in the Battle of Westport in October. Despite initial successes, Price's forces were ultimately defeated and forced to retreat. The campaign marked a significant moment in the war, demonstrating the dwindling strength of the Confederate army in the western theater.
