Pretas
Pretas are supernatural beings in Buddhist and Hindu traditions, often depicted as spirits of the deceased who are suffering due to their past actions. They are characterized by their insatiable hunger and thirst, symbolizing the consequences of greed and attachment. Pretas are typically portrayed with thin bodies and large stomachs, representing their inability to satisfy their desires.
In Buddhist cosmology, Pretas inhabit a realm known as the Preta Realm, which is one of the six realms of existence. This realm serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and the need to overcome negative emotions, such as greed, to achieve spiritual liberation.
