President of Uruguay
The President of Uruguay is the head of state and government in Uruguay, responsible for overseeing the executive branch and implementing laws. The president is elected for a five-year term and can serve non-consecutive terms. The role includes managing national policies, representing the country internationally, and ensuring the welfare of its citizens.
The current president, as of 2023, is Luis Lacalle Pou, who took office in March 2020. The president works alongside a cabinet of ministers and is supported by the General Assembly, which consists of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, to create and pass legislation.
