Prepreg
Prepreg, short for pre-impregnated composite material, consists of reinforcing fibers, such as carbon fiber or glass fiber, that are pre-coated with a resin system. This material is partially cured, allowing for easier handling and precise application in various manufacturing processes. Prepreg is commonly used in industries like aerospace, automotive, and sports equipment due to its high strength-to-weight ratio.
The use of prepreg simplifies the production of composite parts, as it eliminates the need for separate resin application during the layup process. Once laid up, the prepreg is fully cured using heat and pressure, resulting in a strong, lightweight final product.
