Premotor Cortex
The premotor cortex is a region of the brain located in the frontal lobe, just in front of the primary motor cortex. It plays a crucial role in planning and coordinating movements, particularly those that are guided by external stimuli. This area helps in preparing the body to execute movements by integrating sensory information and motor commands.
Additionally, the premotor cortex is involved in the learning of new motor skills and the execution of complex movements. It works closely with other brain regions, including the supplementary motor area and the parietal cortex, to ensure smooth and accurate motor performance.
