Posterior Tibiofibular Ligament
The Posterior Tibiofibular Ligament is a fibrous band located in the lower leg, connecting the tibia and fibula bones at the back of the ankle. This ligament plays a crucial role in stabilizing the ankle joint, particularly during movements that involve rotation or weight-bearing activities.
In addition to providing stability, the posterior tibiofibular ligament helps maintain the integrity of the syndesmosis, the fibrous joint between the tibia and fibula. Injuries to this ligament can lead to ankle instability and may require medical evaluation and treatment to restore proper function.
