Post-War Singapore
After World War II, Singapore faced significant challenges, including economic instability and housing shortages. The British returned to govern, but their control was met with growing discontent among the local population, leading to demands for self-governance.
In 1959, Singapore achieved self-governance, and Lee Kuan Yew became its first Prime Minister. The government focused on industrialization, education, and public housing, which helped transform the economy and improve living conditions. By the 1970s, Singapore emerged as a thriving global trade hub, known for its efficient infrastructure and strong economic growth.
