Post-Polio Syndrome
Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS) is a condition that affects some individuals who have previously recovered from poliomyelitis, a viral infection that can cause paralysis. PPS typically occurs 15 to 40 years after the initial polio infection and is characterized by new muscle weakness, fatigue, and pain.
The exact cause of PPS is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to the gradual degeneration of motor neurons that were previously damaged by the polio virus. While there is no cure for PPS, management strategies such as physical therapy and pain relief can help improve quality of life for those affected.
