Port-Royal Abbey
Port-Royal Abbey was a significant religious institution founded in 1204 in France. It was initially established as a Cistercian monastery but later became a center for the Jansenist movement in the 17th century, promoting a strict interpretation of Catholicism. The abbey attracted many scholars and theologians, including Blaise Pascal and Antoine Arnauld.
The abbey faced opposition from the Catholic Church, leading to its suppression in 1709. Despite its closure, the ideas and writings that emerged from Port-Royal continued to influence religious thought and philosophy. Today, the site is remembered for its historical and cultural significance.
