Popocatépetl
Popocatépetl is an active stratovolcano located in central Mexico. It stands at 5,426 meters (17,797 feet) and is the second-highest peak in the country. The volcano is part of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt and is situated about 70 kilometers (43 miles) southeast of Mexico City.
The name "Popocatépetl" means "Smoking Mountain" in the Nahuatl language, reflecting its frequent eruptions. It has a long history of volcanic activity, with significant eruptions recorded since the 14th century. Today, it is closely monitored due to its potential impact on nearby communities, including the city of Puebla.
