Pope Stephen IV
Pope Stephen IV, also known as Stephen VI, served as the head of the Roman Catholic Church from 816 to 817 AD. He was elected following the death of Pope Leo III and is known for continuing the policies of his predecessor, particularly in promoting the interests of the Frankish Empire under Charlemagne.
During his papacy, Stephen IV focused on strengthening the Church's authority and maintaining its independence from secular powers. He also worked on consolidating the relationship between the papacy and the Carolingian dynasty, which played a crucial role in the political landscape of medieval Europe.
