Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a remarkable structure located in Wales, designed to carry the Llangollen Canal over the River Dee. Completed in 1805, it stands 38 meters high and stretches 336 meters long, making it the tallest aqueduct in the United Kingdom. The aqueduct was engineered by Thomas Telford, a prominent civil engineer known for his innovative designs.
Constructed from cast iron and stone, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct features 18 arches that support a narrow water channel. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its historical significance and engineering excellence. The aqueduct remains in use today, allowing boats to traverse the scenic landscape of North Wales.
