Polyp (Growth)
A polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue that can develop on various surfaces in the body, such as the lining of the colon, stomach, or nasal passages. These growths can vary in size and shape, and while many are benign (non-cancerous), some may have the potential to become cancerous over time.
Polyps are often detected during routine medical examinations, such as a colonoscopy for colon polyps. Symptoms may not be present, but some individuals may experience issues like bleeding or obstruction, depending on the location and size of the polyp. Regular screenings can help identify and manage polyps effectively.
