Political Ridings
A political riding, also known as an electoral district or constituency, is a specific geographic area represented by a member of the legislative body, such as a parliament or congress. Each riding elects one representative, who advocates for the interests of the residents within that area. The boundaries of ridings can change over time due to population shifts and redistricting processes.
In many countries, including Canada and the United States, political ridings are essential for organizing elections and ensuring that all citizens have a voice in government. The number of ridings in a region often reflects its population size, allowing for fair representation in the legislative process.
