Political Parties in Belarus
Political parties in Belarus operate in a highly controlled environment. The country has a dominant party system, with the Belarusian Republican Party and the Communist Party of Belarus being the most prominent. These parties generally support the government led by Alexander Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994.
Opposition parties exist, such as the United Civic Party and the Belarusian Popular Front, but they face significant challenges, including restrictions on their activities and limited media access. As a result, political pluralism is minimal, and many opposition leaders have been imprisoned or forced into exile.
