Pokhran Test Range
The Pokhran Test Range is a significant military testing site located in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, India. It is primarily known for conducting nuclear tests, with the first series of tests taking place in 1974 under the code name Smiling Buddha. The range has been crucial for India's defense capabilities and strategic deterrence.
In 1998, India conducted a series of five nuclear tests at the Pokhran Test Range, collectively known as Operation Shakti. These tests confirmed India's status as a nuclear power and were a pivotal moment in its defense policy. The site continues to be used for various defense-related experiments and missile testing.
