Plasma Collection
Plasma collection is a medical procedure where blood is drawn from a donor to separate and collect the liquid portion known as plasma. Plasma is a yellowish fluid that contains water, salts, enzymes, and proteins, and it plays a crucial role in transporting nutrients and waste in the body. This process typically takes about 1 to 2 hours and is performed in specialized facilities called plasma donation centers.
After the blood is drawn, a machine called a centrifuge spins the blood to separate plasma from other components like red blood cells and platelets. The collected plasma can be used for various medical treatments, including therapies for patients with immune disorders or those undergoing surgeries. Donors are often compensated for their time and contribution.
