Plant and Animal Defenses
Plants and animals have developed various defenses to protect themselves from predators and environmental threats. For example, many plants produce toxins or thorns to deter herbivores. Some species, like the poison ivy, release chemicals that can cause skin irritation, while others, such as the cacti, have sharp spines to prevent animals from eating them.
Animals also have unique defense mechanisms. Some, like the chameleon, can change color to blend into their surroundings, making them less visible to predators. Others, such as the skunk, use strong odors as a warning or deterrent. These adaptations help both plants and animals survive in their ecosystems.
