Plant Intelligence
"Plant intelligence" refers to the ability of plants to respond to their environment in complex ways. This includes sensing light, gravity, and moisture, allowing them to grow towards resources. Plants can also communicate with each other through chemical signals, warning nearby plants of threats like pests or diseases.
Research has shown that plants can exhibit behaviors that suggest a form of decision-making. For example, some plants, like mimosa pudica, can react to touch by folding their leaves. This ability to adapt and respond to stimuli demonstrates that plants possess a level of intelligence, even if it differs from animal cognition.
