Homonym: Plan B (Backup)
Plan B is a type of emergency contraception that can be used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. It contains a higher dose of hormones found in regular birth control pills and is most effective when taken within 72 hours after the incident, although it can work up to 5 days later.
Plan B works primarily by delaying ovulation, which means it prevents the ovaries from releasing an egg. It does not terminate an existing pregnancy and is not the same as the abortion pill. Plan B is available over-the-counter in many countries without a prescription.
