Piping Plover
The Piping Plover is a small shorebird known for its sandy-colored plumage, which helps it blend into its beach habitat. Adult birds measure about 6 to 7 inches in length and have a distinctive black band across their forehead and a short, stubby bill. They primarily inhabit coastal areas, nesting on sandy beaches and dunes.
These birds are considered a threatened species due to habitat loss and human disturbance. Piping Plovers typically lay their eggs in shallow scrapes on the ground, and both parents help care for the chicks after they hatch. Conservation efforts are in place to protect their nesting sites.
