Pioneer 10 is a space probe launched by NASA on March 2, 1972. Its primary mission was to explore the planet Jupiter and gather data about its atmosphere, magnetic field, and moons. Pioneer 10 was the first spacecraft to travel through the asteroid belt and make a close flyby of Jupiter in December 1973, providing valuable information about the giant planet.
After its successful mission, Pioneer 10 continued to send data back to Earth until 2003. It is now traveling through interstellar space, carrying a gold-plated plaque that depicts human figures and information about our planet, intended for any potential extraterrestrial life.
