Pioneer 10 was the first spacecraft to travel through the asteroid belt and make a close flyby of Jupiter in December 1973, providing valuable information about the giant planet. It is now traveling through interstellar space, carrying a gold-plated plaque that depicts human figures and information about our planet, intended for any potential extraterrestrial life.
