Pied Oystercatcher
The Pied Oystercatcher is a large shorebird found along coastlines in Australia and New Zealand. It has a striking black and white plumage, with a long, bright orange bill that it uses to forage for food, primarily mollusks and other invertebrates buried in the sand.
These birds are known for their distinctive calls and social behavior, often seen in pairs or small groups. They nest on the ground, typically in sandy or rocky areas, and are known to be protective of their young, defending their nests from potential threats like predators and human disturbances.
