Phototaxis
Phototaxis is the movement of an organism in response to light. It can be positive, where the organism moves toward the light, or negative, where it moves away from it. This behavior is commonly observed in various organisms, including bacteria, insects, and plants. Phototaxis helps organisms find food, avoid predators, or optimize their growth conditions.
In plants, phototaxis is often referred to as phototropism, where they grow towards light sources to maximize photosynthesis. In animals, such as moths, positive phototaxis leads them to light sources at night. This adaptive behavior plays a crucial role in survival and reproduction across different species.
