Phoolan Devi
Phoolan Devi was an Indian bandit and later a politician, known for her life story that captured national attention. Born in 1963 in Uttar Pradesh, she faced severe hardships, including poverty and gender discrimination. After enduring violence and injustice, she became a leader of a gang, gaining notoriety for her acts against oppressive landlords.
In the early 1990s, Phoolan Devi surrendered to the police and later entered politics, becoming a member of the Samajwadi Party. Her life inspired books and films, highlighting issues of caste, gender, and social justice in India. She was assassinated in 2001, leaving a complex legacy.
