Philippe le Beau
Philippe le Beau, also known as Philippe the Handsome, was a king of the Burgundian Netherlands from 1494 until his death in 1506. He was born in 1478 and was the son of Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, and Mary of Burgundy. Philippe's reign was marked by political alliances and territorial expansion, as he sought to strengthen the power of the Burgundian state.
Philippe le Beau was married to Joanna of Castile, which linked the Burgundian territories to the Spanish crown. His death led to a succession crisis, as he left behind a young heir, Charles V, who would later become a significant figure in European history. Philippe's legacy is intertwined with the rise of the Habsburg dynasty.
