Philip Berrigan
Philip Berrigan was an American peace activist and former Catholic priest, born on October 5, 1923. He became known for his opposition to the Vietnam War and his involvement in the Catholic Worker Movement. Berrigan was a prominent figure in the anti-nuclear movement, advocating for disarmament and social justice throughout his life.
In 1968, Berrigan and his brother, Daniel Berrigan, famously participated in the Catonsville Nine protest, where they burned draft files to protest the war.
