Phalangeal Joints
Phalangeal joints are the connections between the bones of the fingers and toes, known as phalanges. Each finger has three phalanges—proximal, middle, and distal—while the thumb has two. These joints allow for a wide range of motion, enabling actions like gripping and pointing.
There are two main types of phalangeal joints: interphalangeal joints, which are found between the phalanges, and metacarpophalangeal joints, which connect the phalanges to the metacarpal bones in the hand. These joints are crucial for hand and foot function, contributing to everyday activities and mobility.
