Peruvian Independence
Peruvian Independence refers to the process by which Peru gained freedom from Spanish colonial rule. The struggle began in the early 19th century, influenced by other independence movements in Latin America. Key figures, such as José de la Riva-Agüero and Simón Bolívar, played significant roles in the fight for autonomy.
On July 28, 1821, General José de San Martín declared Peru independent in Lima. However, the conflict continued until 1824, when the final battles against Spanish forces were fought. The victory at the Battle of Ayacucho solidified Peru's independence, marking a significant moment in the history of South America.
