Perseus of Macedon
Perseus of Macedon was the last king of the ancient kingdom of Macedon, ruling from 179 to 168 BCE. He was the son of Philip V of Macedon and sought to restore the power of his kingdom, which had been weakened by previous conflicts with the Roman Republic. His reign was marked by efforts to strengthen alliances and military capabilities.
In 168 BCE, Perseus faced the Roman army in the decisive battle of Pydna, where he was ultimately defeated. Following his defeat, he was captured and taken to Rome, where he lived in captivity until his death. His defeat marked the end of the Antigonid dynasty and the beginning of Roman dominance in the region.
