Peripheral Nervous Tissue
Peripheral nervous tissue consists of all the nerves and ganglia outside the central nervous system (CNS), which includes the brain and spinal cord. This tissue is responsible for transmitting signals between the CNS and the rest of the body, facilitating communication and coordination of bodily functions.
The peripheral nervous system (PNS) is divided into two main parts: the somatic nervous system, which controls voluntary movements, and the autonomic nervous system, which regulates involuntary functions like heart rate and digestion. Peripheral nerves are made up of bundles of axons, which are the long projections of neurons that carry electrical impulses.
