Perekop Isthmus
The Perekop Isthmus is a narrow strip of land that connects the Crimean Peninsula to mainland Ukraine. It is approximately 5 to 7 kilometers wide and serves as a crucial geographical link between the two regions. The isthmus is bordered by the Sivash lagoon to the north and the Black Sea to the south, making it strategically important for transportation and military movements.
Historically, the Perekop Isthmus has been a significant site for various conflicts and invasions due to its location. It has been the focus of military campaigns throughout history, particularly during the Russo-Turkish Wars and World War II. Today, it remains an important area for trade and travel between Crimea and the rest of Ukraine.
