People's Front for Democracy and Justice
The People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ) is a political party in Eritrea, established in 1994. It is the only legal political party in the country and has been in power since Eritrea gained independence from Ethiopia in 1993. The PFDJ promotes a one-party state and has been criticized for its authoritarian governance and human rights abuses.
The party's leadership is closely associated with Isaias Afwerki, who has served as the President of Eritrea since independence. The PFDJ's policies focus on national sovereignty, economic development, and military readiness, but it has faced international condemnation for its lack of political pluralism and suppression of dissent.
