People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia
The People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR) is the highest legislative body in Indonesia. It consists of two chambers: the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat (People's Representative Council or DPR) and the Dewan Perwakilan Daerah (Regional Representative Council or DPD). The MPR is responsible for amending the constitution, establishing laws, and overseeing the government.
The MPR meets at least once every five years to discuss national issues and set the direction for the country. Members of the DPR are elected by the public, while the DPD represents regional interests. This assembly plays a crucial role in Indonesia's democratic governance.
