People's Army of Yugoslavia
The People's Army of Yugoslavia (JNA) was the military force of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Established in 1945, it played a crucial role in the country's defense and was involved in various conflicts, including the Yugoslav Wars in the 1990s. The JNA aimed to protect the socialist ideals of the state and maintain unity among the diverse ethnic groups within Yugoslavia.
As the political landscape changed, the JNA faced challenges in adapting to the growing nationalism among the republics. By the early 1990s, the army was increasingly seen as a Serb-dominated force, leading to tensions with other ethnic groups. The dissolution of Yugoslavia ultimately resulted in the disbandment of the JNA, which transitioned into the military forces of the newly independent states, such as Serbia and Montenegro.
