Peltasts
Peltasts were light infantry soldiers in ancient Greece, known for their agility and speed on the battlefield. They typically carried a small shield called a pelta and were armed with javelins, allowing them to engage in skirmishing tactics. Their mobility made them effective in harassing heavier troops and disrupting formations.
These soldiers played a crucial role in various military campaigns, especially during the Peloponnesian War. Peltasts often operated alongside heavier infantry, such as the hoplites, providing support by launching ranged attacks before retreating to safety. Their tactics influenced the development of light infantry in later military history.
