Pecos Wilderness
The Pecos Wilderness is a protected area located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico. Covering over 200,000 acres, it is part of the Santa Fe National Forest and features diverse ecosystems, including alpine meadows, dense forests, and high mountain lakes. The wilderness is home to various wildlife species, such as elk, deer, and numerous bird species.
Established in 1964, the Pecos Wilderness offers numerous recreational opportunities, including hiking, camping, and fishing. Popular trails, like the Pecos River Trail, lead visitors through stunning landscapes and provide access to scenic spots, including the beautiful Pecos Falls.
