Paul-Émile Borduas
Paul-Émile Borduas was a Canadian painter and a key figure in the abstract art movement. Born on April 1, 1905, in Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, he became known for his innovative use of color and form. Borduas was a leading member of the Automatist movement, which emphasized spontaneous creation and the subconscious in art.
In 1948, Borduas published the manifesto "Refus Global," which rejected traditional artistic values and called for artistic freedom. His work significantly influenced the development of modern art in Canada and inspired future generations of artists. Borduas passed away on February 22, 1960, leaving a lasting legacy in the art world.
