Paul Schäfer
Paul Schäfer was a German-born figure known for his controversial role in the establishment of a religious community in Chile. In the 1960s, he founded the Colonia Dignidad, a settlement that combined a strict religious environment with agricultural activities. The community became notorious for its secretive nature and allegations of human rights abuses.
Schäfer was also linked to the Pinochet regime in Chile, which ruled from 1973 to 1990. His community was accused of being involved in the detention and torture of political opponents during this period. After fleeing Chile in the late 1990s, he was eventually arrested in 2005 and faced multiple charges related to his actions in Colonia Dignidad.
