Paul Ryan is an American politician who served as the 54th Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he represented Wisconsin's 1st congressional district from 1999 until 2019. Ryan is known for his focus on fiscal policy and his role in shaping the party's budget proposals. Before becoming Speaker, Ryan was the chairman of the House Budget Committee and played a significant role in the development of the Ryan Budget, which aimed to reduce the federal deficit. He was also the Republican nominee for Vice President in the 2012 election, running alongside Mitt Romney.
