Past Simple Tense
The Past Simple Tense is used to describe actions or events that happened and were completed in the past. It often includes a specific time reference, such as yesterday, last week, or in 2020. Regular verbs typically form the past simple by adding “-ed” to the base form, like play becoming played. Irregular verbs, however, have unique past forms, such as go changing to went.
In sentences, the past simple tense can be used in both affirmative and negative forms. For example, “She visited her friend” is affirmative, while “He did not go to the party” is negative. Questions can also be formed using this tense, such as “Did you see the movie?” This tense helps convey clear timelines in storytelling or reporting past events.
