Parents Music Resource Center
The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) is an organization founded in 1985 by a group of parents, including Tipper Gore, to address concerns about explicit content in music. The PMRC aimed to promote awareness of lyrics that contained violence, drug use, and sexual themes, advocating for parental guidance in music consumption.
To achieve its goals, the PMRC proposed a labeling system for albums, which would inform consumers about explicit content. This initiative led to a significant public debate about censorship, artistic freedom, and the role of parents in regulating children's media exposure, influencing the music industry and its practices.
