Papatūānuku (Earth)
Papatūānuku, in Māori mythology, represents the Earth and is considered the mother of all living things. She is often depicted as a nurturing figure, providing sustenance and shelter to her children, the plants, animals, and humans. Papatūānuku is closely associated with the natural world and is revered for her role in sustaining life.
In the creation story, Papatūānuku lies beneath her partner, Ranginui (the Sky), and together they give birth to various elements of the world. Their separation symbolizes the beginning of life on Earth, allowing light and space for growth. Papatūānuku's significance is deeply embedded in Māori culture and spirituality.
