Pan-STARRS2
Pan-STARRS2 is a powerful astronomical survey telescope located on the summit of Haleakalā in Hawaii. It is part of the Pan-STARRS (Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System) project, designed to detect and monitor near-Earth objects, including asteroids and comets. The telescope features a large 1.8-meter mirror and advanced imaging technology, allowing it to capture wide-field images of the night sky.
Operational since 2016, Pan-STARRS2 plays a crucial role in planetary defense by identifying potentially hazardous objects that could impact Earth. It also contributes to various astronomical research projects, including the study of distant galaxies and supernovae, enhancing our understanding of the universe.
