Pančić's spruce
Pančić's spruce, scientifically known as Picea omorika, is a species of spruce tree native to the mountainous regions of the Balkan Peninsula. It typically grows to a height of 20 to 30 meters and is characterized by its slender trunk and conical shape. The tree has distinctive, short, needle-like leaves that are dark green on top and silvery underneath.
This species was named after the Serbian botanist Josif Pančić, who discovered it in the 19th century. Pančić's spruce is valued for its ornamental qualities and is often used in landscaping. It is also important for biodiversity, providing habitat for various wildlife species in its native range.
