Palmaris Longus
The Palmaris Longus is a muscle located in the forearm. It is considered a superficial muscle, meaning it is close to the surface of the skin. This muscle helps in flexing the wrist and tensing the palmar fascia, which is the connective tissue in the palm of the hand. Not everyone has a Palmaris Longus; it is absent in about 14% of the population.
The Palmaris Longus originates from the medial epicondyle of the humerus and inserts into the palmar aponeurosis of the hand. Its presence or absence does not significantly affect hand function, making it a common site for tendon grafts in surgeries.
