Palk Strait
The Palk Strait is a narrow body of water located between the southeastern coast of India and the northeastern coast of Sri Lanka. It connects the Bay of Bengal to the Gulf of Mannar and is approximately 40 to 85 kilometers wide. The strait is named after the ancient Palk Bay, which is situated to the south.
This strait is significant for maritime navigation and fishing activities. It is also known for its shallow waters and numerous small islands, including the Adam's Bridge or Rama Setu, which is a chain of limestone shoals that connects India and Sri Lanka.
